Renewable Energy Civils Contractor: Solar Farm & BESS Substations

LMC Utilities delivers specialist civil groundworks for solar farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and the grid connection substations that enable renewable energy to connect renewable energy generation to the electricity network. NERS accredited from LV to 132kV, nationally mobile, and set up for the rural field-based conditions

As solar capacity and battery storage expand across the UK, the demand for NERS-accredited civils sub-contractors who can deliver substation builds, HV cable routes, and enabling groundworks on remote sites continues to grow. LMC Utilities is one of the few sub-tier contractors with the full accreditation suite, including Achilles UVDB registration

The groundworks powering Britain's energy transition

Solar farm substation civils

Utility-scale solar farms require substation civils infrastructure to transform and export power to the electricity network. LMC Utilities provides the complete civil scope, groundwork, foundations, cable trenching and ducting, plinth construction, and reinstatement. These projects are typically rural and field-based, requiring a team that can operate independently, away from urban infrastructure, with the supervision standards that remote sites demand.

Battery energy storage system (BESS) civils

BESS installations require specialists civils packages, foundation and plinth works for battery containers and transformers, HV cable routes, substation civils, and access groundworks. LMC Utilities delivers the civil scope as a specialist sub-contractor to the principal contractor or EPC developer, with full NERS accreditation and Achilles UVDB pre-qualification in place.

Accreditations for renewable energy sector pre-qualification

LMC Utilities holds NERS accreditation for civils works and cable laying from LV to 132kV, together with Achilles UVDB B2 accreditation, achieving a 100% score across all eight audit modules. Additional accreditations include SafeContractor, EUSR and LRQA-approved management systems.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

A solar farm substation requires civil groundworks covering site preparation, foundations and plinth construction, HV cable trenching from the array to the substation, duct installation, boundary and drainage works, and surface reinstatement. LMC delivers the civil engineering works together with cable installation (laying and pulling).

Yes. LMC Utilities delivers civil groundworks for battery energy storage system installations, foundation and plinth works for battery containers and transformers, HV and LV cable routes, substation civils, and access groundworks. BESS projects are an increasing part of LMC Utilities' workload.

Yes. LMC Utilities holds NERS accreditation for civil works and cable laying from LV to 132kV, covering the substations and cable routes associated with solar farm and BESS grid connections. LMC Utilities is also registered on Achilles UVDB for substation construction and underground cable laying to 198kV.

Yes. LMC Utilities is registered on Achilles UVDB (AchillesID: 00238289) for substation construction, substation general maintenance, substation and transformation centre projects, and underground cable laying from 1kV to 198kV. The most recent audit returned a 100% score across all eight modules. This is the pre-qualification standard used by most DNOs and major energy sector principal contractors.
